Jonathan Kennard scored another brace of fourth positions, again narrowly missing the prized podium slots but gaining two places in the championship standings. The Tunbridge Wells based 19 year-old had waited over a month to race after the previous two rounds in Spa were cancelled due to weather conditions. Kennard was pleased with his qualifying performances despite losing the best from the tyres in the first session when a red flag stopped the session to sit on the grid 6th in class (19th overall) for race one and 4th in class (17th overall) for the second race of the day
The first race continued the F3 story of weather domination with a hail storm half way through the race. Jonathan played a wise game of staying out of trouble as other drivers were caught out by running on slick tyres in what turned out to be wet conditions.
“The hail on slicks made it a bit interesting with cars spinning all over the place. There were three Championship Class cars ahead so I couldn't really challenge for another place in my class but I'm very pleased with 10th overall. It's good to have a strong finish.â€
For race two Jonathan got off to another good start and moved up into third, defending hard with a group of cars behind for quite some time. The conditions were still treacherous with spray everywhere but Jonathan held firmly onto his third place until an incident on the last corner of the last lap pushed him down a place to finish fourth.
“My team-mate's front right hit my side-pod. He was never going to make it round that corner without using me as a brake. I'm disappointed to lose the place in the second race but it's good to come away with more good points. Overall I'm quite pleased. I think I made another step forward with the car and with F3 in general.â€
