While the Formula One circus gets underway at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, Jonathan Kennard and the rest of the Grand Prix stars of the future will be battling round the fabulous historic Monza Autodrome just north of Milan in Italy. The event next Saturday and Sunday 9/10 July is round 6 of the British Formula 3 International Series and will not only feature the normal double-header races, but also one of the rescheduled Spa races cancelled earlier this year due to bad weather.
Now the BRDC Rising Star and McLaren Autosport Young Driver finalist returns to the track which saw him dominate last season's Formula Palmer Audi Championship races, the 20 year-old from Tunbridge Wells taking double pole and victory on his way to the title. The youngster, who now pilots one of the three Alan Docking Racing prepared Dallara Mugen-Hondas is just two points adrift of fourth place in the most closely-contested National Class for many years.
Four strong podium finishes in the last two events has set Jonathan up well for his first win in the 22-round series and with the historic Italian Grand Prix circuit among his favourite tracks, Jonathan sets forth next week in confident mood. “I am feeling quite confident yes,†said Jonathan. “I've had a good run in qualifying and racing over the last few races and now head to a track I know very well, I've won each race I've finished there and although track knowledge isn't essential it always helps psychologically. I think I'm suited to faster circuits, my results at Thruxton and Castle Combe have shown that and now Monza is another that's pretty quick and I can't wait to get there.â€
“I'm also settling in well into F3 generally and have had a good run of podium finishes but I'm still determined to stand on that top step - maybe Monza will clinch it for me. Another couple of good results there would hopefully put me ahead of Fisher and help to close down the gap to Hollings in third place.â€
The event which supports the Le Mans Endurance Series will feature a busy programme for Jonathan and the F3 regulars, with first qualifying at 09.00 on Saturday and the second at 12.30 before two races in the afternoon at 15.45 and 18.10. The final race will take place at 10.20 on Sunday morning.
