Kennard aims for Silverstone victory

The British Formula 3 Championship resumes after a four-week break on the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this weekend and the event is poised to be a turning point for 20 year-old National Class driver Jonathan Kennard.  The BRDC Rising Star and McLaren Autosport Young Driver finalist rates Silverstone as one of his favourite tracks, and the fast sweeping curves of the Northamptonshire former wartime airfield will suit the style of the 2004 Formula Palmer Audi Champion.

A series of successful tests for the youngster at Pembrey and Snetterton could well see a first victory in the ultra-competitive National Class, which is the most hotly contested for several years.  And with a wealth of track knowledge for the Silverstone-based Alan Docking Racing team likely to come to the fore, things are certainly looking up for him.

Ranked as one of the fastest circuits still in regular use, the 2.249 miles Silverstone track will be the venue for three F3 races this weekend. At 12.15 on Saturday the rescheduled 30 minutes Spa race will take place for which Jonathan posted the fifth quickest time in qualifying held earlier in the year, while the two scheduled races will qualify on Friday at 11.00 and 17.30 and race on Sunday at 11.15 and 16.00.

Last time out on the Northamptonshire circuit, Jonathan took the victor's spoils with victory in the second FPA race, held on the International track.  Now buoyed by his performance last week, and by leading the last race in Monza, until a puncture ruined his chances of a maiden win, Jonathan is quietly confident for the coming triple-header.  “The Spa race will be the most difficult obviously as I'm starting from fifth on the grid, but we've had a very successful series of tests since the last rounds in Monza, so let's just say I'm confident.  Silverstone is a very fast track and is undoubtedly one of the best on the calendar - it has pretty much everything and the fast corners definitely suit me.  With that and the track knowledge of ADR it all helps to get the event underway in a positive frame of mind.”
