In dominant fashion, 18 year-old Jonathan Kennard from Tunbridge Wells in Kent converted his pole position into victory in today's third round of the Visma Software Formula Palmer Audi Championship at Monza. From the start the BRDC Rising Star led into the first chicane at the historic Italian Grand Prix circuit and pulled away into a commanding lead he was never to lose.
The reigning FPA Autumn Trophy winner had topped the time sheets in all four sessions and went into the 10 lap race full of optimism about opening his race winning account following two second places in the opening rounds at Brands Hatch last month.
"I knew before the start just what I had to do and I knew it was important to get away well and keep the others behind me. The only way to do that was to push hard at the start and put in some quick times so I could get the early advantage." said Jonathan at the flag. "I made a good start to take the lead into the first chicane and gradually built up an 8 second lead. At the end I eased off a bit but still had a six and half second advantage at the flag. It may have looked easy but believe me it wasn't!"
The youngster, who secured the support of Aedas Architects and Building Surveyors earlier this year, now hopes to repeat his performance in tomorrow's second race and potentially take the lead in the championship.
